These bibliographies contains listings for both primary (original historical documents --- i.e. letters, first-hand accounts, memoirs, etc.) and secondary (analyzed scholarly and historical writing) materials. The focus is the Southern Appalachians, Western North Carolina, and Asheville, NC.

Teachers and students will find sources of information on the diverse groups of people that have contributed to the history  and culture of Western North Carolina and the United States in general. When possible, the sources have been annotated.

In no way should this bibliography be viewed as comprehensive or complete.  It is a work in progress. Other sources will be added as we discover them.  If you know  of critical sources that we have missed, please let us know so we may add them.
